A rebuilt old town and a confident modern capital
Warsaw was almost completely destroyed in 1944, and its Old Town was painstakingly rebuilt from paintings and records, earning UNESCO status. Today it is a dynamic capital where that restored centre sits alongside the Palace of Culture and Science and glass towers. The Warsaw Rising Museum and POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews are outstanding. Walk the Royal Route to Łazienki Park, where Chopin concerts are held in summer, and eat pierogi in a milk bar.
