Poland's mountain resort at the foot of the Tatras
Zakopane sits at the foot of the Tatra Mountains and is Poland's best-known mountain resort. Its distinctive wooden houses and churches follow the Zakopane Style, inspired by the local highlander culture. Take the funicular up Gubałówka or the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch, hike to the lake of Morskie Oko and browse the stalls of Krupówki Street for oscypek, the smoked sheep's cheese. Winter brings skiing, and summer brings hikers.
