Islands, bridges and a city of tiny gnomes
Wrocław spreads over a dozen islands in the Oder river, linked by more than a hundred bridges. Its Market Square is one of the largest in Poland, with a Gothic town hall and colourful gabled houses. Ostrów Tumski, the oldest part of the city, is lit each evening by gas lamps, still lit by hand. Hunting for the hundreds of small bronze dwarves scattered around town is a favourite pastime, and the Racławice Panorama is a vast circular painting.
