Brașov

A Saxon town ringed by Carpathian peaks

Brașov is a medieval Saxon town tucked beneath the Carpathian Mountains, with a Hollywood-style sign on Mount Tâmpa above it. Its centre is the Council Square, overlooked by the Black Church, the largest Gothic church in the region. Take the cable car up Tâmpa, find Rope Street, said to be one of the narrowest in Europe, and use the town as a base for Bran Castle, linked to the Dracula legend, and the fortress of Râșnov.
