Khartoum

Where the Blue Nile meets the White Nile

Khartoum stands where the Blue Nile and White Nile meet to form the Nile, and at the confluence the two rivers' different colours can be seen side by side. The National Museum holds finds from ancient Nubia and Kush, including reconstructed temples rescued from the waters of Lake Nasser. Across the river, Omdurman has a huge souk, the tomb of the Mahdi, and the Sufi dervish gatherings held on Friday afternoons at the tomb of Hamed al-Nil.
