Coffee towns and flowers in the western hills
The Ruta de las Flores winds through El Salvador's western highlands, named for the wildflowers that bloom along the road in the dry season. It links a string of small towns: Juayúa, with its weekend food festival, Apaneca, surrounded by coffee farms and crater lakes, and Concepción de Ataco, with walls covered in colourful murals. The Siete Cascadas hike from Juayúa passes a series of waterfalls. Coffee tours show how the region's beans are grown and roasted, and craft markets sell local textiles.
