The world's largest salt flat
The Salar de Uyuni covers over 10,000 square kilometres at about 3,650 metres, the largest salt flat on earth. In the dry season it is a white hexagonal crust perfect for perspective photos; after rain, roughly January to March, a thin layer of water turns it into a mirror for the sky. Tours from Uyuni cross to Isla Incahuasi, an island of giant cacti, and continue on three-day trips south to the red Laguna Colorada with its flamingos, the Sol de Mañana geysers and the border with Chile.
