Bolivia's whitewashed constitutional capital
Sucre is the calmest and most elegant of Bolivia's cities, its centre a grid of whitewashed colonial buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Bolivia's declaration of independence was signed in the Casa de la Libertad in 1825. Climb to the Recoleta viewpoint above the city, and visit the Museo de Arte Indígena for the region's weaving. Outside town, a cement quarry at Cal Orck'o reveals a wall with thousands of dinosaur footprints. With a mild climate and many Spanish schools, many travellers stay longer than planned.
