Adobe oasis in the driest desert on earth
San Pedro de Atacama is a small oasis of adobe houses and dusty streets at nearly 2,500 metres, surrounded by the Atacama, one of the driest places on earth. Tours head out at every hour: to the Valle de la Luna at sunset, to the El Tatio geysers before dawn, to the altiplanic lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques, and to the flamingos of the Salar de Atacama. Float in the salty Laguna Cejar, and join a stargazing tour, since the skies here are why the world's great observatories are nearby.
