Granite towers, glaciers and Patagonia's great treks
Torres del Paine National Park rises from the Patagonian steppe as a cluster of granite peaks, horns and towers, ringed by lakes coloured milky turquoise by glacial flour. The W Trek, four or five days between refugios and campsites, takes in the three Torres at dawn, the French Valley and Grey Glacier; the O Circuit loops round the back of the massif. Day visitors can drive past Lago Pehoé and the Salto Grande waterfall, with guanacos grazing by the road. Book refugios well ahead, and pack for wind.
