Boulevards, bistros and the world's great museums
Paris rewards walking more than almost any capital. Haussmann's boulevards give way to the medieval lanes of the Marais, the painters' hill of Montmartre and the bookish Latin Quarter, all tied together by the Seine and its bridges. The museums are world-class, from the Louvre to the Impressionists at the Musée d'Orsay, but the real pleasure is the everyday: a bakery queue in the morning, a long lunch in a bistro, an evening drink on a terrace. The Métro makes it compact and easy.
