Fukuoka

Yatai food stalls and tonkotsu ramen

Fukuoka is a laid-back, easily walkable city on Kyushu's northern coast, and many Japanese consider it the country's best food city. At night, yatai stalls set up along the river in Nakasu and serve ramen, yakitori and oden to a few stools at a time. It is the home of Hakata tonkotsu ramen with its rich pork broth. Visit Kushida Shrine and the temples of Hakata, relax in Ohori Park, and take the short trip to Dazaifu's Tenmangu shrine.
