A walled town at the head of a fjord-like bay
Kotor sits at the innermost point of the Bay of Kotor, a winding inlet enclosed by steep mountains. Its Venetian-era old town, a UNESCO site, is a maze of stone squares, churches and cats. Climb the zigzag path up the walls to the Castle of San Giovanni for a view down the bay. Nearby Perast is a tiny baroque town with boats to the island church of Our Lady of the Rocks. Arrive early or late to avoid cruise crowds.
