A modest capital between rivers and mountains
Podgorica is Montenegro's capital and largest city, a mostly modern place where the Morača and Ribnica rivers meet. Its sights are few but pleasant: the Ottoman quarter of Stara Varoš with its clock tower, the Millennium Bridge, and the Cathedral of the Resurrection with its golden domes and frescoes. Most visitors use it as a base for Lake Skadar National Park, a vast lake of water lilies and birdlife, and the wine region around Virpazar.
