Street art and Malaysia's best street food
George Town, on the island of Penang, was founded by the British East India Company in 1786 and grew into a trading port of Chinese, Malay, Indian and European communities. Its old centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a grid of shophouses, temples, mosques and ornate Chinese clan houses such as Khoo Kongsi. Wall murals and wrought-iron caricatures tell the town's history. Above all, George Town is famous for its hawker food: char kway teow, assam laksa, nasi kandar and cendol.
