Gateway to Mount Kinabalu and Borneo's reefs
Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah, in Malaysian Borneo, and the base for some of the island's great experiences. Mount Kinabalu, at 4,095 metres, is usually climbed over two days to reach the summit at dawn, and Kinabalu Park around it is extraordinarily rich in plants. Off the city's waterfront, the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park offer beaches and snorkelling. Back in town, the evening waterfront market grills seafood, and trips run to see orangutans and proboscis monkeys in the wild.
