Wildlife gathering at waterholes on a vast salt pan
Etosha National Park surrounds a vast salt pan in northern Namibia that shimmers white in the dry season. Wildlife depends on a network of waterholes along the pan's edge, which makes game viewing easy and self-driving straightforward on the park's gravel roads. Elephants, lions, black rhinos, giraffes, zebra and springbok all come to drink, and the floodlit waterholes at Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni camps are famous for night-time sightings of rhinos. The dry winter months are best, when animals concentrate around the water.
