Serengeti migrations, Africa's highest peak and spice-scented Zanzibar.
Tanzania holds some of Africa's most famous wildlife country. The Serengeti's great migration of wildebeest moves across the plains for much of the year, the Ngorongoro Crater is packed with game, and Tarangire is known for elephants. Kilimanjaro rises above the plains, while the south offers wilder safaris in Ruaha and Nyerere national parks, and chimpanzees live in Mahale's forests.
Most trips pair a northern safari with the beaches and Stone Town alleys of Zanzibar, where Swahili food mixes Arab, Indian and African spices. Safari days start early and roads between parks are long and bumpy. June to October is dry and excellent for wildlife; January and February suit the calving season in the southern Serengeti, while April and May bring the long rains.
