Serengeti National Park

Endless plains and the greatest migration on earth

The Serengeti's name comes from the Maasai word for endless plains, and its grasslands seem to stretch without limit. Around two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle move through the ecosystem in a yearly circuit: calving in the southern plains early in the year, then heading north towards the Mara River later in the year. Lions are abundant, cheetahs hunt in the open, and leopards drape themselves over trees in the central Seronera valley. Balloon flights at dawn and tented camps that move with the herds complete the experience.
