Jacaranda avenues and the heart of Shona art
Harare is a planned city of broad avenues that turn purple when the jacaranda trees bloom in the spring. The National Gallery of Zimbabwe has a strong collection of Shona stone sculpture, and the Chapungu sculpture park and craft markets such as Mbare show more. The Mukuvisi Woodlands offer walks with zebra and giraffe close to the centre, and the Harare Gardens are the city's main green space. Most visitors pass through on the way to Mana Pools, Great Zimbabwe or the Eastern Highlands.
