Diplomacy and a giant fountain on Lake Geneva
Geneva is a city of diplomacy, home to the European headquarters of the United Nations, the Red Cross and dozens of international organisations. Its symbol is the Jet d'Eau, a fountain that shoots water around 140 metres into the air above the lake. The old town climbs to St Pierre Cathedral, where Calvin preached, and the Reformation Wall commemorates the city's Protestant history. The Palais des Nations and the Red Cross Museum are fascinating, and CERN is nearby. Lakeside promenades, watchmakers and chocolatiers complete the picture.
