A lakeside city of banks, art and bathing spots
Zurich is famously wealthy and orderly, but it also has one of Europe's liveliest cultural scenes. The old town straddles the River Limmat, with the twin towers of the Grossmünster and the Fraumünster, whose stained glass windows were designed by Marc Chagall. The Kunsthaus is one of Switzerland's great art museums, and the Bahnhofstrasse is a byword for luxury shopping. In summer locals swim in the lake and the river from traditional wooden bathhouses. Zurich West, a former industrial area, is full of bars and restaurants.
