Jungfrau Region

Waterfalls, mountain trains and the Eiger's north face

The Jungfrau Region, reached from the lakeside town of Interlaken, contains some of the most famous scenery in the Alps. The Lauterbrunnen valley is a glacier-carved trough with 72 waterfalls, including the Staubbach Falls, and car-free villages such as Wengen and Mürren perch above it. The Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau form a wall of peaks, and a cogwheel railway tunnels through the Eiger to the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. Grindelwald is the base for hikes to Bachalpsee and the First cliff walk.
