Corcovado

The wildest rainforest in Central America

Corcovado National Park, on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica's far southwest, protects one of the largest remaining lowland rainforests on the Pacific side of the Americas. The wildlife is extraordinary: Baird's tapirs, scarlet macaws, anteaters, all four of the country's monkey species and, very rarely, jaguars. Visits are with a certified guide, usually on day trips or overnight hikes to the Sirena ranger station. Drake Bay and Puerto Jiménez are the bases, and boat trips run to Isla del Caño for snorkelling.
