Nuremberg

Imperial castle, gingerbread and history

Nuremberg was one of the great cities of the Holy Roman Empire, and its imperial castle still watches over a walled old town of churches and half-timbered houses. Albrecht Dürer's house is a museum. The city's darker history is told at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds documentation centre and the Memorium Nuremberg Trials in the courtroom where the trials were held. Local specialities include small grilled Nürnberger sausages and Lebkuchen gingerbread, and the Christkindlesmarkt is one of Germany's most famous Christmas markets.
