Tea gardens and views of Kanchenjunga
Darjeeling clings to a ridge in the eastern Himalayan foothills, surrounded by tea estates whose leaves produce some of the world's most prized black tea. On clear mornings, sunrise from Tiger Hill lights up Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the UNESCO-listed toy train, loops and zigzags up from the plains. Walk the Mall and Chowrasta, visit Buddhist monasteries such as Ghum, and tour a tea garden to watch plucking and tasting.
