Jaipur

The Pink City of palaces and bazaars

Jaipur's old city was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1876, and the colour stuck. Behind the rosy walls are royal palaces, the honeycombed façade of the Hawa Mahal and bazaars stacked with textiles, jewellery and blue pottery. In the hills above, Amber Fort sprawls along a ridge over a lake. With Delhi and Agra it forms India's Golden Triangle, the classic first trip.
