Beaches, churches and an easy coastal rhythm
A Portuguese colony until 1961, Goa has a flavour all its own: whitewashed baroque churches, colourful streets in Panaji's old quarter and a cuisine that mixes spice with vinegar and coconut. The north has the famous party beaches and night markets; the south is calmer, with palm-lined coves. Visit between November and March for dry, sunny weather.
