Iceland in miniature beneath a glacier-capped volcano
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is often called Iceland in miniature, fitting lava fields, beaches, fishing villages and a glacier into a single loop drive. At its tip stands Snæfellsjökull, the ice-capped volcano Jules Verne chose as the entrance in Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Kirkjufell, the arrowhead mountain above Grundarfjörður, is one of the most photographed peaks in the country. Stop at the little black church of Búðir, the sea cliffs of Arnarstapi and the seal colony at Ytri Tunga.
