DMZ

The border strip dividing the Korean peninsula

The Korean Demilitarised Zone was established by the 1953 armistice and runs across the peninsula as a buffer between North and South. Guided tours from Seoul visit sites on the southern side such as the Imjingak park, the Third Infiltration Tunnel and the Dora Observatory, which looks into North Korea. The Joint Security Area at Panmunjom, where negotiations take place, is open only on specific tours when conditions allow. Bring your passport, as it is checked at military checkpoints.
