Seoraksan

Granite ridges and autumn colour on the east coast

Seoraksan National Park rises near the east coast in Gangwon province, a range of jagged granite ridges, waterfalls and forested valleys. A cable car climbs to Gwongeumseong fortress for views, and hikes lead to Ulsanbawi rock or, for the fit, to Daecheongbong, the highest peak. Sinheungsa Temple sits near the entrance with a large bronze Buddha. Autumn brings the famous red and gold foliage, and crowds. Nearby Sokcho has a fish market and beaches.
