Blue-and-white pottery and Vermeer's town
Delft is a compact, picturesque canal town that gives a taste of the Dutch Golden Age without the crowds of Amsterdam. Johannes Vermeer lived here and painted his famous View of Delft, and the Vermeer Centrum tells his story. The Markt is framed by the Renaissance town hall and the New Church, where members of the House of Orange-Nassau are buried. Delft is also known for its blue-and-white earthenware, still hand-painted at the Royal Delft factory. The Old Church has a noticeably leaning tower.
