Europe's boldest skyline on the Maas
Rotterdam's historic centre was largely destroyed in 1940, and the city chose to rebuild with bold modern design rather than recreate the past. The result is a skyline of adventurous buildings: the yellow Cube Houses, the horseshoe-shaped Markthal with its painted ceiling, and the Erasmus Bridge across the Maas. Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is a mirrored bowl where you can see a museum's collection in storage. Rotterdam has one of the largest ports in the world, and harbour boat tours show its scale.
