Millions of tulips in the bulb fields
Keukenhof is one of the largest flower gardens in the world, open for only a few weeks each spring. Around seven million bulbs are planted every autumn to create sweeping displays of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils along lakes, paths and pavilions. Surrounding it are the working bulb fields of the Bollenstreek, striped in bright colour from late March to early May, best seen by bicycle. The gardens are close to Leiden and an easy trip from Amsterdam. Arrive early or late in the day to avoid the crowds.
