Preikestolen

A sheer cliff-top platform above the Lysefjord

Preikestolen, the Pulpit Rock, is a square granite platform that ends in a sheer drop of about 600 metres to the Lysefjord. The walk up from the car park takes around two hours each way over rocky steps and open slabs, and the view at the top is one of Norway's most famous. Stavanger, with its white wooden old town and oil museum, is the usual base, and the same fjord holds Kjeragbolten, the boulder wedged between two cliffs.
