Northern lights, midnight sun and Sámi reindeer country
Far above the Arctic Circle, Swedish Lapland is a land of birch forest, mountains and long frozen rivers. Abisko National Park, with its famously clear skies, is one of the best places in Europe to see the aurora, and in summer it marks the start of the Kungsleden hiking trail. Near Kiruna, the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi is rebuilt from river ice each winter. Dog-sledding, snowmobiling and visits to Sámi reindeer herders fill the dark months, while June brings round-the-clock daylight.
