A Venetian gem on Slovenia's short coast
Piran sits at the tip of a narrow peninsula on Slovenia's short stretch of coast, a tight tangle of Venetian houses and lanes. Its centre is Tartini Square, named after the violinist born here, and the bell tower of St George's Church gives views across the Gulf of Trieste to Italy and Croatia. Walk the old town walls, swim from the promenade and eat fresh fish in the harbour. The Sečovlje salt pans lie just to the south.
