Soča Valley

An emerald river in the Julian Alps

The Soča river runs through the western Julian Alps in a shade of emerald that looks unreal. The valley, centred on Bovec and Kobarid, is Slovenia's outdoor capital, with rafting, kayaking, canyoning and paragliding, plus hiking in Triglav National Park. Walk the Soča Trail and see the Great Soča Gorge and Kozjak waterfall. The Kobarid Museum tells the story of the First World War battles fought here, later described by Ernest Hemingway.
