Postojna Cave

A vast cave system explored by underground train

Postojna Cave is one of the largest show caves in Europe, a network of galleries and halls formed by the Pivka river. Visitors ride a small electric train deep inside before continuing on foot past stalactites, stalagmites and vast chambers. The cave is also home to the olm, a blind cave salamander nicknamed the baby dragon. Nearby, Predjama Castle is built into the mouth of a cave in a sheer cliff, and the Škocjan Caves are a UNESCO site.
