Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Face to face with mountain gorillas

Bwindi's forests cloak the steep hills of south-western Uganda, and they are home to nearly half the world's mountain gorillas. Small groups set out each morning with rangers and trackers to find a habituated gorilla family, a trek that can take anything from an hour to most of the day, followed by an unforgettable hour with the gorillas. The forest is also rich in birds, butterflies and other primates. Trailheads at Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo each give access to different families.
