Kampala

A city of seven hills on Lake Victoria

Kampala spreads across a series of hills near the northern shore of Lake Victoria. The Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO site, are the burial place of Buganda kings, and the Buganda Parliament and the Kabaka's Palace show the kingdom's continuing role. The Uganda Museum has good ethnographic collections, and the Gaddafi National Mosque offers a view from its minaret. Owino and Nakasero markets are packed and noisy, and the city's bars and clubs around Kololo are known for staying open late. Entebbe, with its botanical gardens, is close by.
