Zambia's capital and crossroads
Lusaka is Zambia's capital and its main arrival point, a spread-out city of markets and new shopping centres. The Sunday market at Arcades sells carvings, fabrics and baskets, and the Lusaka National Museum covers the country's history and culture. The Lilayi Elephant Nursery, run by Game Rangers International, cares for orphaned elephants on the city's southern fringe. Most travellers stay a night or two before flying on to South Luangwa or the Lower Zambezi.
