Lakes, mountains and chocolate in northern Patagonia
San Carlos de Bariloche sits on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, with Swiss-style stone and timber buildings and a main street of chocolate shops. The Circuito Chico drive loops past lake views to the Llao Llao hotel, and a chairlift climbs Cerro Campanario for one of the best panoramas in Argentina. In summer people hike, kayak and fish; in winter Cerro Catedral becomes the largest ski area in South America. The Seven Lakes Route north to San Martín de los Andes is a classic road trip.
