Tango, steak and late nights on grand avenues
Buenos Aires feels like a European capital transplanted to the River Plate, with Parisian-style mansions and wide avenues such as the Avenida 9 de Julio. Each barrio has its own character: cobbled San Telmo with its Sunday antiques market, colourful La Boca and the Caminito, leafy Palermo for cafés and bars, and Recoleta, whose cemetery holds Eva Perón's tomb. Eat bife de chorizo at a parrilla, drink Malbec, and go to a milonga to watch or join the tango. The city runs late, and dinner before nine is rare.
