Floating down rivers of crystal-clear water
Bonito's rivers flow over limestone, which filters the water so clear that snorkellers drift alongside shoals of dourado and piraputanga as if in an aquarium. The Rio da Prata and Rio Sucuri are the classic floats. The Gruta do Lago Azul is a cave with a deep blue lake, and at the Buraco das Araras, a huge sinkhole, red-and-green macaws nest in the walls. Tourism is carefully controlled, with limited places, so book tours through local agencies ahead.
