Iguaçu Falls

The panoramic side of a mighty waterfall system

The Iguaçu River drops over a horseshoe of basalt cliffs on the border with Argentina, splitting into hundreds of individual falls. Brazil holds the smaller share but the best overview: a single trail inside Iguaçu National Park runs along the gorge with ever-widening views, ending on a walkway that juts out towards the Devil's Throat, where you will get soaked. Boat trips run up to the base of the falls, and the Parque das Aves opposite the park entrance shelters toucans and macaws. Most visitors also cross to the Argentine side.
