Maritime history on the Atlantic
Halifax is the hub of Canada's Atlantic provinces, a friendly port with a long waterfront boardwalk. The star-shaped Citadel fort sits on a hill above town, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic displays artefacts from the Titanic and the 1917 Halifax Explosion, and Pier 21 was the entry point for nearly a million immigrants. It's a city of pubs, live music and seafood, especially lobster and scallops. Peggy's Cove lighthouse is a short drive, and further afield lie Lunenburg and the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island.
