Feluccas, Nubian villages and granite islands
Aswan is where the Nile is at its prettiest, flowing between granite boulders, islands and the golden dunes of the west bank. Sail a felucca around Elephantine Island and Kitchener's Island, visit brightly painted Nubian villages, and take a boat to Philae, where the Temple of Isis was moved stone by stone to a new island when the dams were built. The Nubian Museum and the Unfinished Obelisk are in town, and Aswan is the start or end of most Nile cruises and the base for Abu Simbel.
