A dawn climb and one of the oldest monasteries
Mount Sinai, Jebel Musa in Arabic, is revered in Judaism, Christianity and Islam as the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments. Most visitors climb in the dark with Bedouin guides, by camel path or the 3,750 Steps of Repentance, to watch the sun rise over the granite peaks. At the foot of the mountain, St Catherine's Monastery, founded in the sixth century, is one of the oldest continuously working Christian monasteries in the world, with a famous library and icon collection.
