The island of gods, temples and rice terraces
Bali is unlike the rest of Indonesia: a Hindu island where small offerings of flowers and incense are placed on doorsteps every morning and temple festivals fill the calendar. The south is the busiest part, with the surf and sunsets of Kuta and Seminyak, the resorts of Nusa Dua and the cliff-top temple of Uluwatu, where the kecak dance is performed at dusk. Further afield are the sea temple of Tanah Lot, the volcano of Mount Batur and quieter coasts in the east and north.
